PCC presents final performances
of funny, insightful play 'Museum'
Only three more performances of
the popular play, "Museum,"
written by Tina Howe, will be
performed at PCC.
This witty and engaging play begins
will be performed tonight and twice Saturday at PCC's Little Theater. The play
takes place in a metropolitan city. It is the
last day of the current art show. Patrons
of all types and persuasions arrive to see,
criticize, enjoy, protest, explore, inform
and in one way or the other, explain the
Art. The guard on duty is the link who
tries to keep it all from becoming chaos.
And then there is the Art. Four all-white
paintings with titles like "Seascape,"
"Landscape" and "Starscape" plus sculptures and a clothesline with hanging
cut-outs of people in various occupations
and ethnicities. All this creates a funny,
yet insightful experience, as anyone who
has ever been to a museum can appreciate.
Directed by PCC instructors Whitney
Rydbeck and Sandi Massie, "Museum"
has a cast of 40 of the usual suspects at
an art exhibit: guards, art lovers, foreigners, students, fellow artists, skeptics and,
of course, the occasional lost soul. The
play explores the effect of art on the
viewer, as well as how our reactions to art
speak about us as people.
According to the directors' notes, "Tina
Howe's popular play is a perfect fit for
our talented assortment of student actors.
The characters are diverse, sometimes
quirky, but always fun and interesting.
And the play offers insight into the importance of art in any culture. Like it, hate
it, be indifferent to it, art enriches our
lives and elevates living to more than just
existence."
The final three performances are 8 p.m.
today and Saturday and a 2 p.m. matinee
Saturday.
General admission to the play is $10;
$5 for students, staff and seniors. Tickets
will be sold at the door.
