The music faculty played a
concert of classical and chamber
music earlier this month to raise
money for the Music Scholarship
Fund.
The music department has a

scholarships, awards and other
needs within the
department. ■nH
The concert, held
in Harbeson Hall,
included a wide variety of music, with a
talented faculty that
has performed across
the world in concerts
and recitals with
other famous orchestras, singers and
ensembles.
"The concert was
excellent. It received
rave reviews. We
had a big audience;
Harbeson Hall was
filled," said music
department dean Dr. .
Paul Kilian. "I think that Dr.
Kossler is particularly pleased
because of how well everything
went, and I think he is also pleased
because these functions remind us
of how talented our faculty is.'*
Performers included John
Dearman, who is an applied
instructor and teaches private
lessons to those who wish to lake
them; Stephen Jones a classical
guitar teacher; Anne Marie
Ketchum, who teaches voice and
opera workshops; voice teachers
Michelle Latour and Lisa Stidham;

All of these faculty members
have an extensive background in
music. Dearman is a founding
member of the Lbs Angeles Guitar
Quartet and has appeared in concerts in such places as the Lincoln
Center, Carnegie Recital Hall and
the Hollywood Bowl. He has
appeared at international festivals
in Hong Kong and Madrid.
Jones has written a guitar textbook and is the director of the PCC
Guitar Ensemble.
wum—mmm Many of his classical guitar recordings are played on
classical radio stations. Sprague is a
freelance clarinetist
who has performed
with the Los
Angeles
Philharmonic and
the Long Beach
Symphony. She can
also be seen as a
regular performer in
the musical
Ragtime.
The faculty performed various
mmmmmmm—" pieces from different artists. Stidham performed a
folk song arrangement by
Benjamin Britten. Sprague played
a clarinet piece by Darius Milhaud.
Dearman chose to play classical
guitar selections. Ketchum sang
Hermit Songs by Samuel Barber.
Additional performances were
Jones on the guitar, Stoup on the
flute, Madden on piano and
Zoolalian on the piano.
"All the performances were
excellent. I liked them all. It
would be too hard to categorize
one particular performance as a
highlight because they are all really different.
Some performances were vocalists, others were instrumental. All
the faculty did great performances," said Kilian.
